At Stamford Hospital our approach to cancer care and treatment is based on teamwork. By bringing together expert oncologists, radiation oncologists and surgeons, and other medical specialists to work as a team, we can offer our patients the best treatment available.

Treatment Services
Many advances have been made in the treatment of blood cancers in the past 30 years. The goal of treatment in these cancers is to destroy the cancer cells in your blood or bone marrow and allow healthy ones to form. Today, most types of lymphomas, leukemias and multiple myeloma can be effectively treated with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. In more seripous cases patients may undergo a stem cell transplant.
Treatment depends on the type and stage of a patient's cancer.
Chemotherapy & Radiation
The most common treatments for blood cancers include chemotherapy drugs, often along with radiation therapy (a focused beam of radiation) to kill cancer cells. New biological agents, such as antibodies that target cancer cells, can also be used.
In some instances, radiation therapy is employed simultaneously with chemotherapy, or in sequence with it. The newer targeted therapies, given either with chemotherapy or as single agents, have added to the overall effectiveness of cancer treatment.
