Routine Screening
Proper screening and early detection can go a long way in preventing and treating colon cancer. If you're age 50 or older, you need to get routine screening for colon cancer. If you're at high risk, you may need to start screening before 50.
Several screening methods exist. Your screening tests may depend on whether you have a suspected hereditary cancer syndrome. If you do, specific genetic testing may also be appropriate. Some of this testing is performed via blood tests. Other tests are performed directly on tissue/tumor samples. Your individual risk factors will help your doctor determine the appropriate screening method for you.
