The Bennett Cancer Center (BCC) is dedicated on April 26, 1992.
1993

On December 2, The Stamford Hospital receives notification of State approval for the Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant (ABMT) program as a 5-year demonstration project.
1994

On January 29, the Inpatient Oncology Unit moves to a new 28-bed unit on Main 3 North, consisting of 16 private rooms and 6 semi-private rooms.
1995

Since 1975, more than 10,000 cases/abstracts have been documented in the Stamford Hospital Cancer Registry.
1996

The 1st Annual WALK, sponsored by Stamford Health Foundation, is held on June 2, in conjunction with National Cancer Survivors Day. The event attracts 1,200 walkers and raises $100K.

Through a grant from The Clairol Corporation, the Mobile Mammography Program is founded to provide mammograms for women of diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The Cancer Risk and Prevention Program is founded.
1997

The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer awards four-year approval for the cancer program at the BCC.

The Prostate Seed Implant Program is initiated.
1998

The National Cancer Institute selects BCC as the only site in Fairfield County to participate in STAR (Study of Tamoxifen and Raloxifene) — a breast cancer prevention trial.

The Mayor's Cancer Awareness Campaign is initiated and focuses on educating and screening the community for breast and prostate cancer. Stamford Hospital plays a key role in this initiative.
1999

The post-treatment Exercise and Nutrition Program is formally established at the Kneaded Touch in Fitness.
2000

The Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence opens in June, offering 12 private rooms, spa, therapeutic gardens and other amenities never before available.
2001

The BCC participates in the phase II/III clinical lung cancer trial sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and ECOG.
2002

The Women's Breast Center opens at the Tully Health Center. A nurse coordinator is hired.

The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer awards three-year approval for the cancer program at the BCC with "Teaching Hospital Cancer Program" status.
2003

The Integrative Medicine Program is expanded to include Reiki, Reflexology, Massage therapy, yoga and tai chi-all offered at no cost to patients; funded through Stamford Hospital Foundation, WALK/RUN funds.
2004

IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) is installed.
2005

Stamford and Darien Paint the Town Pink throughout the month of October to raise awareness for screening and early detection of breast cancer.
2006

Lung Cancer Program is implemented with dedicated Nurse Navigator

Stamford Hospital signs a collaboration agreement with the New England Division of the American Cancer Society-the first in the state of Connecticut.

IGRT added to radiation oncology technology.

Colorectal Cancer Registry is implemented.

Opened The CyberKnife® Center at Stamford Hospital.

Acquired the da Vinci Surgery System, enabling the cancer program to offer comprehensive surgical options.

Developed Transitions: Choices in Recovery, a post-treatment survivorship program for patients and their families.

Achieved American College of Surgeons Approval, with 8 of 9 commendations.

Diagnostic Imaging Center at the Tully Health Center designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
2009

The Women's Breast Center became the first in the nation to be recognized by the American College of Surgeons as a National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)-Accredited Center.

Implemented Transitions: Choices in Recovery, a post-treatment survivorship program for patients and their families.

Granted $25,000 from the CT Challenge to support Moving On: Transitions Program for Young Adult Survivors
